The Colourful World of Barcelona

08 - 10 June 2011
Location : Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is a whole lot of fun, colourful, beautiful, interesting, different, one of its kind, and the list can go on and on.
Barcelona is the capital of the Catalunya region (Catalunya is one of the 17 autonomous communities of Spain).
They still regard themselves as an independent nation, and not part of Spain, because they are really proud of their original identity. And I can see the reason of their pride - because their city is really worth a visit.
Barcelona is my favourite city after visiting 6 cities in Europe - Paris, Barcelona, Milan, Venice, Florence and Rome.

Touched down in The El Prat Airport, Barcelona!

Random interesting rappers rapping in Spanish in the train heading from the airport to the city centre. I just love listening to Spanish :)

Nou Carrer de La Rambla street, where our hotel is

Love beautiful little streets like these.

At Hotel Gaudi, a 3 star hotel, nearest metro station : Liceu, hotel was named after Barcelona's most famous architect - Antoni Gaudi who has amazing modern creations around the city. Room was priced at RM400 per night, very comfy with a balcony and a great view :)

Our view from the balcony

More little streets like these

The famous La Rambla street!

Love this breakfast! The toasted croissant on the far left tasted like roti canai and I love it! Bacons here were huge! And being Hakka, I love eggs!

Crab salad yums

Gelato while strolling along La Rambla :)

La Boqueria Market, a famous market here

Things here are super colourful!

Another bacons & eggs breakfast !

The bony structure of Casa Mila (or also known as La Pedrera), a great work by Antoni Gaudi

Pepperoni pizza and seafood paella yummss I began to love paella! Paella is a Valencian rice dish, very good!

Tapas!

Colourful vandalism lol

Artwork :)

One of the statues at Placa Catalunya. At that time, they were having a protest against their government due to the 50% unemployment rate in Spain, one of the locals informed us. He said that in order to survive here, one must earn at least 1500 Euros, but now some of them are only earning about 1000 Euros.

Hence they camped here at Placa Catalunya for days to protest.

It's like a carnival here in La Rambla, with eccentric and elaborate street performers like these.

Flowers! :)

The pond in our hotel lobby, very Gaudi-inspired :D

Next post : Barcelona - The Camp Nou Football Stadium!
